If you become worried about someone, if they have said something that’s worrying you like they can’t cope with their life or that they’re self harming or wanting to self harm, and you can see that their mental health has got worse, the best way of helping them is to first talk to them. Try and find out what’s wrong with them and let them know that you are there for them so they know that they’re not alone, because they are probably feeling that. You could also ask them if they want you to go to the doctors with them because their doctor will be able to put them in touch with the right support. If they have any family members who you know it would help to talk to about your concerns then do this, or even a worker because they will be trained to give your friend the right support. If you try and support your friend on your own it could affect you in the long run, because if you’re anything like me you probably worry about everything!
I’m not saying don’t support your friend do but also try and get them some help with professionals. In the long run that really is the best way of helping your friend, but the most important thing is for them to know that you are there for them, and it can only make the friendship stronger.
